D-CURE has organized annual symposia since 2004. Aimed to bring leading scientists and clinicians to Israel, each year we have focused on a different aspect of diabetes-related research.
D-Cure's 4th Annual Symposium will be held between March 24 - 25, 2009 in Tel Aviv.
For this occasion we have decided to focus on complications of diabetes. With the expanding epidemics of obesity and diabetes, complications are emerging as a health issue of major significance, exacting a huge burden on the patient and on society. Complications of diabetes are a major cause of blindness, dialysis, amputations, and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide. Consequently, there is an urgent need for drugs that will interrupt the chain of events that leads to these complications.
A total of 20-30 speakers from Israel and abroad will be presenting data in symposia or plenary lectures. We expect an audience of about 400 basic scientists and clinicians. Among the topics to be discussed will be: insulin resistance, diabetes and the adipocyte, diabetes and the beta cell, diabetes and inflammation, diabetes and the brain, diabetes and pregnancy, diabetes and the cardiovascular system and diabetes prevention.
